Sheffield’s Local, Experienced, and Trusted Coal Merchant

Our business,Wilkinson fuels was based at 54 sally street in Sheffield city centre in the 1920s, then moved to it’s new location at Foxwood from Intake in the 1930s. We’re proud to be a fifth generation family owned coal merchant, and we still deliver the same standards of customer care today as we always have done.

We are officially an approved Coal Merchant, and a member of the coal merchants federation. We sell only high-quality coal, smokeless and wood fuels – to ensure that you achieve the highest possible heat output and efficiency from your fire, stove, or appliance. Given our history, you could say that coal’s in our blood – and naturally our experts are more than happy to advise you on the best form of fuel for your individual needs.

Coal and Logs – Your Options

There are a wide range of solid fuels available to the modern buyer…

Our coal is available in 25 or 50kg open sacks, or can be bought by the tonne. There are a number of varieties – ranging from conventional house coal, through to popular ‘smokeless’ alternatives. Environmental regulations limit the use of certain coal types in designated ‘smokeless’ urban areas, meaning that it’s important to make the right choice.

Wood fuel is an in-demand product today – owing to the popularity of wood and multi-fuel burning stoves. The options range from affordable softwood logs, through to higher priced hardwood logs – which are more calorific, meaning they generate significantly more heat when burned. We also offer kiln dried logs – which burn very hot and very cleanly, owing to their exceptionally low moisture content.

We understand that the wide range of coal and wood fuels available can be confusing, so we’ve put together a guide to fuel types to help you make an informed decision.
